FILM
OF THE WEEK: PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK
Some think it boring, others pretentious,
others boring and pretentious, but yet others - others like
myself and some other people too, think it is ace. Quite possibly
our best. film. ever. Certainly it is a mystery as a story AND
as a film, because despite its critical success from the outset,
none of the stars of the film went onto to make any major roles.
Of course the director, Peter Weir, certainly did go on and
forged a great career. Anyway, rent it or buy and decide for
yourself.

20 to 1: CRAP SHOW, DOES AUSSIE TOP 20 LIST
Honestly, how and when did Bert
Newton become a legend? Was it back in the days, as Grandpa
Simpson would say, that "football was called baseball,
and i was wearin' an onion on my belt, which was the fashion
of the time"? Or was it yet further back, in the days before
things like talent, good looks, non-campness and heads that
don't look like the wrong side of a sandwich platter were invented?
Anyway, this quality program decided
to do an 'all-time Aussie top 20 films list', and me, being
bored decided to watch it. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad. This
is what they came up with:
20. Muriel's
Wedding
19. Wolf Creek
18. Babe
17. Chopper
16. Romper Stomper
15. Storm Boy
14. Strictly Ballroom
