MURIEL'S WEDDING (1994)

Director: PJ Hogan

Writer: PJ Hogan

Toni Collette as Muriel
Rachel Griffiths as Rhonda
Also Bill Hunter, Sophie Lee, Matt Day, Chris Haywood and Gabby Millgate

Some films instantly strike a chord with the national consciousness, and this was one of those. It probably has a lot to do with the wonderful character of Muriel, cheeky and vulnerable, able to laugh at herself as quickly as at others. Muriel just wants to get married. Problem is, all the 'bewdiful' girls in her small country town don't think she'll ever fit in - and her family doesn't help either. So it's off to the big smoke, where she meets Rhonda and the adventure really begins. Plenty of laughs and worth seeing as the role which really launched Toni Collette's career.
